Enchanted Isle in the Italian Lake District

Isola Bella is a delicate crown floating on the waters of Lake Maggiore in Italy's Lake District. Originally developed as the historic summer residence of the Prince and Princess Borromeo, the tiny island is ringed with a 17th-century baroque palace, elaborate terraced gardens, and a hillside village of shops and cafes.
Between March and October, Isola Bella draws thousands of daily visitors who come to marvel at the Murano glass chandeliers, the labyrinthine grottoes, and the white peacocks gracing Italian-style gardens. A trip to the island, located just a short boat ride from the mainland town of Stresa, is a perfect excuse to ply the waters of Lake Maggiore and enjoy a boat's-eye view of the lake, the nearby islands, and the towering Alps.
